The short version
In this version of Tiffin Finder nothing you do is stored on a server. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising trackers and no cookies set by us. The kitchens you follow and the alert sign-up you save live only in your browser, on your device, and you can clear them any time.
What stays in your browser
- Follows. The list of kitchens you follow is saved in your browser’s local storage so it’s there when you come back. It never leaves your device.
- Alert sign-up. If you enter an email and tick the consent box, we save the email, the time you ticked the box, the wording you agreed to and the kitchens you follow — in your browser only. Alerts aren’t running yet, so nothing is sent anywhere. When alerts launch we will ask before moving this off your device.
- Theme. Your light/dark choice, if you change it.
- Preview notice. Whether you dismissed the amber preview bar, so it stays hidden on this device.
- Offline copy. The site uses a service worker to keep a copy of its own pages and the kitchen list so it opens quickly and works offline. That copy contains no personal data.
Clear everything this site saved on this device. This removes follows, the alert sign-up, your theme choice and the preview-notice dismissal from this browser. It does not affect other devices.
What third parties may see
- Hosting. The site is served as static files by our hosting provider (GitHub Pages in the preview). Like any web host, it may keep standard server logs with IP addresses for security and operations. We do not receive or analyse them.
- Fonts. The typefaces load from Google Fonts. Your browser requests them from Google’s servers, which see the request the way any web request is seen. We’d like to self-host fonts in a later version to remove this.
- WhatsApp and phone. When you tap “Order on WhatsApp” or “Call”, your device opens WhatsApp or your phone app. From that point you’re dealing with the kitchen directly, under WhatsApp’s and your carrier’s own privacy terms. Tiffin Finder does not see your messages or calls.
Kitchens’ information
For real kitchens, we publish the business details the kitchen gives us and asks us to show: kitchen name, cuisine, quadrant and delivery areas, menu and prices, and the WhatsApp number and phone number they use for orders. We never publish home addresses. We keep a copy of the permit a kitchen shows us for verification and do not publish it. Kitchens can ask us to change or remove their listing at any time.
The listings on the site right now are samples with made-up names and 403-555-01xx numbers. They don’t belong to anyone.
Future alerts and your consent
When alerts launch they will follow Canada’s anti-spam law (CASL):
- You choose to receive them by ticking a box that is unchecked by default. We never pre-tick it.
- We record when and how you consented and the wording you agreed to.
- Every message includes an unsubscribe link that works with one tap, and we act on it within 10 business days (our target is immediately).
- Alerts are only about kitchens you chose to follow. We won’t sell or share your email with kitchens or anyone else.
Your choices
Because nothing is stored on our side in this version, there’s nothing for us to correct or delete for you yet — the “Clear my saved data” button above does it all. Once alerts launch and we hold your email, you’ll be able to ask us to show, correct or delete what we have, and we’ll answer within 30 days. Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada’s PIPEDA apply to us as a small Alberta service.
